Shawn trains out of his place in Comanche, TX. It's centrally located with easy access to all the major events in Texas.
The fully covered arena provides a cool place to work cattle in the summer, and a dry place to work on wet days, allowing more training time and horses that are ready to go win.
Shawn has been training horses for over 25 years. While living in Montana he had the opportunity to ride with some of the greatest horsemen of our time including Tom Dorance and Ray Hunt.
He also had the opportunity to ride with Tink Elordi, this exposure has greatly enabled him to understand the horse and how they think, which in turn allows for a better outcome with starting colts and the end result is a horse that is exceptionally trained.
Shawn sincerely cares about the horses and their well being both mental and physical.
Shawn was always known for how his horses operated and he decided to follow his passion and train horses full time. Shawn is a true cowhorse trainer with his philosophy being "it's all about the cow".
Shawn started showing his ranch horses in Reined Cow Horse events and decided that he wanted to pursue cutting, and Texas was the place to do so. He moved to Texas in 2004 and started training horses out of his place before going to work for Gary Belenfant as assistant trainer in 2007.
Working for Gary gave him great insight into training a world class cutting horse.
